We just found this great video on How To Tile Your Basement Floor. This first installment is on measuring, something that we Home Improvement Challenged type people have a bit of trouble with.
Tiling, whether in your basement or other important places in your home such as bathrooms, kitchens, front entry ways is an inexpensive way to add thousands of dollars in resale value to your home. This is especially true if you can do it yourself.
Big Huge Safety Tip and Caution Here:
Home improvements like tiling floors, especially if you are attempting it with selling your home in mind, need to be done well. So, if you don’t have the time or you have 2 left hands, like some of us, spring for a professional to do it for you. It will save you money in the long run!
A poorly done home improvement like tiling will take away not only the aesthetic ( Love that word) appeal of the home, but devalue your home in the eyes of the buyer. If a buyer sees poorly done home improvements, they will :
- See dollar signs in repairing the poorly done work. Now buyers won’t usually have accurate figures in their heads, but their little imaginations runneth over. They will pass on your house because of the Perception of what it would take to repair the damage, not necessarily what the Actual cost would be.
- Buyers will also question any Other home improvements to your property and begin to look for the “What else is wrongs” . This is ususally a death knell for making an offer or for offering any where Near what you want.
So, Grasshopper, listen to the wise words from Yoda, ” Do well, or Do Not, there is no Try” . Ok, I am guilty of taking a little poetic license with that quote, but you get my drift.
Remember, Not All home Improvements will add value to the resale of your home. So, if you are planning a move in the near future Call us (number is at the top) We will be happy to come out and counsel you on what home improvements will add value and get your home sold.
